Managing a Dispersed Workforce:
Common Problems and Issues
Employees are away from your primary place of work!
Old methods like time clocks, foremen will not work.

Mainly trust that the employee's are honest, and highly motivated to get as much done in a day as they possibly can, as much as you yourself could do. An effective dispatcher is a valuable asset to any company with outside workers. Where do these dispatchers usually come from? In most cases it is an older outside worker moved inside.
PROBLEM
The dispatch function is left to a person, which most likely, sides with the outside works. Has been in the field and is sympathetic to the workers needs.

In most cases, trusted long time employees will give a good effort in a typical shift. What about the new hires? How come the completed work varies from worker to worker?
a) Humane nature being what it is, most employees' will do the minimum amount of work that is required to keep the job.
b) Workers in time will slow down and only do what is necessary.
c) There is a vast difference between reports, time sheets and returned work orders.
d) Then there is the intentional slacking that occurs, lingering over lunch and breaks, keeping warm or cool in vehicles. Taking care of personal business on work hours. (well I'm going past my bank I'll slip in to do my stuff)
All of this leads to at least a lost hour or more of productivity each day. Multiplied by the number of outside workers equals Money left on the table that could have been billed to paying customers or the elimination of an outside worker with all the associated expenses, leaving more money for the owners.
Ad to these losses an ineffective dispatcher and that one hour per day could easily increase to 2 hours per day of lost billable hours…
SOLUTION
